Bible vs. Joseph Smith-Micah & Alma

The second prophet to be put to the test in Deuteronomy is the Biblical prophet Micah. Micah 5:2 says "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." The NIV study Bible describes this verse in this way. Ephrathah: The region in which Bethlehem was located. ruler: ultimately Christ, who will rule for God the Father. origins...from of old: His beginnings were much earlier than his human birth. from ancient times: within history and even from eternity. Basically, Micah is telling us that the Christ will be born in Bethelem. This verse is quoted in part in Matthew 2:6. King Herod was upset when the Magi came to ask where Jesus was (2:1 "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea") because they wanted to worship him. In his fury, he called the experts of the law and asked them where the Christ was to be buried. They replied (2:5-6) "In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, 'for this is what the prophet has written: 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who be the shepherd of my people Israel.''" There is historical evidence that Jesus was born in the city of Bethlehem. In the video, they show the Church of the Nativity which is the church over the believed birth site of Jesus. An expert who claims to not be a Christian also confirms that this is the place the Jesus was born of Mary. Since this prophecy of Micah nearly 700 years before Jesus was born came true, Micah passes the test of the prophets. The next prophet is the Book of Mormon prophet Alma. This book is believed to have been written between 91BC and 53 BC Alma 7:10 says "And behold, he shall be born of Mary, as Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers..." Wait, didn't we just confirm Jesus was born in Bethlehem? A secular expert in the field even claimed that was the birthplace of Jesus. There is no denying this truth among scholars. I think Alma made a mistake. Some leaders of the Mormon church say that it is the same thing. They say the two cities are so close to each other that when Alma said said Christ would be born in Jerusalem, he meant the region of Jerusalem which includes Bethlehem. In the video, the narrator speaks with another expert in the area and tries to convince him of this claim. The expert looked shocked as if he had never heard of anything so absurd. He said that they are 6 miles apart. They are different cities. With cities in between them!!! We forget nowadays that 6 miles during the time of Christ wasn't a 5 minute drive like it is today. There were no cars...Bethelem is not the same city as Jerusalem. Therefore, Alma fails the test of a prophet.
